Summer Fun at Carymoor!

Monday 31st July to Friday 4th August

9am - 4pm each day

This summer we are launching an exciting week of summer activities for children aged 7-11 years!

Join us from 31st July to 4th August
for an action-packed week of fun on our beautiful nature reserve near Castle Cary. Try your hand at surviving like Bear Grylls one day, being an Anglo Saxon the next and then get things ‘ship-shape’ as part of our Eco-Pirate crew! Explore our woodlands, meadows and ponds and find out about the amazing creatures that live there, plus help with some fun conservation tasks around the site. Each day will be full of hands on activities, challenges, games and craft opportunities and most importantly lots and lots of fun!

During the week we will also work towards our John Muir Discovery Award, a nationally recognised conservation Award.

Here is the programme for the week's activities:

Survival Day

Find out about John Muir.

Head into the woods for a day of survival and team challenges. Orienteering, fire lighting and marshmallow toasting, den building, whittling and tricky team challenges that would even test Bear Grylls!

Eco Pirates

The Carymoor Eco Pirates turn other’s trash into their treasure. They’re also good at using renewable energy sources too. As well as playing many fun games we’ll be making solar powered boats, plastic bag kites, Pirate Boat plant pots, recycled paper, plastic bottle windmills and going on a treasure hunt of course!

Anglo Saxons and Vikings

Today we travel back in time and find out about life in Anglo Saxon times. Make a mini long house, try your hand at some wattle and daub, make a willow fence panel, learn how to make flour, charcoal, and bake bread over an open fire.

Today we will be visiting the tipping face of the landfill at Dimmer and seeing first-hand where your rubbish goes. We will also experience life in a shanty town and then help with some of the conservation tasks on our site including hay raking.

Woodlands, Meadows and Ponds

Today is all about our beautiful nature reserve. We’ll be making the most of all our amazing habitats, finding out what creatures live here. We'll also be making willow butterflies or dragonflies, natural material clay creatures, weaving, learning about fossils and bones, leaf bashing…and lots more besides!
